Participation/Contest details:
Do you love decorating for the holidays? Participate in our third-annual holiday decorating contest! Register your home by Nov. 29 to become one of the houses on the map. One lucky family will be awarded a $250 gift card to Lowe’s, courtesy of State Farm Agent Kyle Dempsey, as well as a trophy for receiving the most votes (the "People's Choice Award"). Other honors include the "Clark Griswold" prize, "Best in Show," "Incredible Inflatables," and the "Block Party Award," with these winners determined by the Munster Education Foundation.
Registration: To compete in this contest, an entry form showing intent to participate must be completed, signed, and submitted to the Munster Education Foundation by Nov. 29. The entry fee to show your commitment is $15.
Deadline for Decorating: All homes must be decorated and lit by 5 p.m. on Dec. 2. All entries must include lights/illumination and be in good taste and family-oriented. All entries will be required to place a sign in their yard provided by the Munster Education Foundation to show they are part of the contest. All entries must remain lit from dusk to 10 p.m. and be decorated from Dec. 2 - Dec. 31 to promote our community as a holiday attraction.
Judging: The houses will be judged by residents of Northwest Indiana and the Munster Education Foundation. Entrants are encouraged to promote their houses to friends, neighbors, and via social media to get votes (use the hashtag #MEFMerryandBright). Each entrant will have their own personalized page listed online where votes can be cast for their home a ($1 dollar = 1 a vote).
Announcement of Winners: Winners will be announced on Munster Education Foundation’s Facebook Page in early January. Winners will then receive their prizes.
Additional Information: Your address and photos of your decorations will be used on our map and social media outlets. Each house will receive a personal fundraising page so you can promote your home for the People’s Choice Award via social media (use the hashtag #MEFMerryandBright). If you need assistance setting up your personal page, please email a picture of your decorated home and a short description of your entry (see this example).
